Do you want to have fun, make friends, be active in the community - while doing your bit for the planet? Then come and join us! We're part of the Transition Town movement in which communities are making the transition from oil dependence to a more sustainable future.
Why? Our heating, our transport, and everything we eat, wear and use - all depend on fossil fuels. Not only are these going to run out, but burning them is creating disastrous climate change, and their rising cost is creating economic crisis. We need to change the way we live.
Here's what we're doing - come and join us!
We aim to increase local resilience and sustainability, and to reduce our carbon footprint. We're divided into groups which address these aims in different ways:
FOOD AND GROWING produces more of our food locally and encourages our shops and restaurants to provide sustainably sourced food.
THE FOOD MARKET brings locally sourced, low-carbon food to Crystal Palace.
ENERGY reduces the amount of energy we use and encourages the generation and use of renewable energy.
WASTE encourages creative waste reduction, recycling and upcycling.
TRANSPORT promotes low-carbon ways of getting to and around Crystal Palace.
LOCAL AND FAIR supports the local economy and encourages local traders to stock, and people to buy, goods that are produced locally, sustainably and fairly.
Each group runs different projects - check them out!
SIGN THE PETITION TO MAKE BANANAS FAIR!
We hope you enjoyed our events for Fairtrade Fortnight which this year focused on how a supermarket price war here is forcing banana growers into poverty.
There's still time to sign the petition asking Business Secretary Vince Cable to challenge unfair supermarket pricing practices.
