Crystal Palace Transition Town Waste Group
Waste in the UK is becoming a huge issue and it's rubbish. It takes huge amounts of energy - derived mainly from rapidly depleting fossil fuels - to manufacture and distribute all the items we use. When these are thrown away unnecessarily it takes even more energy to dispose of them - and to manufacture new items to replace them. The Waste Group focuses on waste reduction, reuse, recycling, upcyclying and various other ideas to combat the problem.
Our main project at the moment is Palace Pick-up - read all about it here. But we have loads of other ideas. For instance, exploring the possibility of recycling local waste with all the "shop front" businesses in Crystal Palace. Businesses pay the council every time their waste bins are emptied so we believe that if we did find recyclable items that could be put to good use, businesses would be happy to work with us on disposing of them. If you are interested in working on ideas such as this, or starting a waste project in Crystal Palace and would like support, contact us |
