Learn more about the Transition Town movement

Crystal Palace Transition Town is part of a global movement in which communities are working to make the transition to a future without oil. The idea started in Totnes, Devon and has spread around the world. It's about communities responding to the threats of climate change and 'peak oil' by taking positive action together.

What is Transition?
Transition means the changes we need to make to create a sustainable, low-carbon, more socially just future.  Learn more about what the transition to an oil-free community means.
Peak oil
Oil is a finite resource, and there comes a point when global oil production will stop growing and begin a terminal decline. Some experts believe we have already reached that peak. Learn more about how this will affect us and how it has inspired the Transition Town movement.
Climate change
Our use of oil and other fossils fuels is changing our climate. If we continue emitting carbon at the current rate we can expect our climate to be more volatile, with more climate disasters and more areas of the planet unable to sustain life. Transition is about living in ways which reduce the amount of carbon we use in everyday living. Learn more about climate change and how we can avoid it.
