Local and Fair: what we're about and what we do

We're about encouraging sustainability and fairness both locally and globally.

LOCAL TRADE
We promote local businesses, mainly through our Local and Fair Guide to Shopping and Eating in Crystal Palace. We encourage traders to stock, and people to buy, more locally produced, organic, sustainably sourced and fairly traded goods. Our work goes hand-in-hand with the Food Market, Patchwork Farm and other projects related to local trade.  For more, see Local Trade

We'll be regularly updating our Guide and finding new ways of working with local businesses, forging closer links with the Chamber of Commerce and independent traders. We'll also be encouraging more people to shop and eat in a way that is sustainable and fair to producers, running stalls and campaigning at local events.

FAIRTRADE
We also encourage people to buy Fairtrade, not only to guarantee a fair price to poor farmers in less developed countries, but also as a means of supporting farmers globally in their transition towards a more sustainable future for us all.

We organise high profile activities every year involving the wider community during Fairtrade Fortnight. Read about what we did in 2012 and 2013, which won us awards from the Fairtrade Foundation, and our events in 2014 to combat the shocking practices in the banana industry. See Fairtrade
