Hello

We would like to invite you to our first Annual General Meeting. We haven’t found a way to make those words more exciting, but we hope that if you come along you’ll find it a bit less formal than your average AGM. It is simply a meeting where everyone who has been involved in one way or another has the opportunity to come together and share ideas. We do have a few technical formalities to sort out, but we would like the bulk of the evening to be made up of two main things: finding out what we’ve been up to so far, and getting a chance to think and talk about what you would like to see happen next. You can also now read our ANNUAL REPORT HERE

Who is welcome?  You !
If you are on our mailing list, on our Facebook or Twitter accounts, have been to any of our events, or are just
interested, please come along!

Where? The Salvation Army Building(Above Blockbusters)

When?
 Wednesday 23rd May at 7.30pm

Programme for the Evening

1.      Introduction

2.      Reports From Groups (5 minutes from each group)

3.      Election of Officers

4.      Amendment to our constitution

5.      Any additional amendments or proposals by members

6.      Invite for new members to Steering Group

7.       “What next?” activity

We have adopted a very informal approach to our AGM. Any ideas and comments members wish to add can be incorporated into our “What Next?”activity, but if there are any amendments to our constitution you wish to propose in advance, please contact us on info@crystalpalacetransitiontown.org.uk
before the 18th May so we can include on the agenda for the evening.

You can look at our present constitution on our
website:

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

We thank Andy Bodycombe, Katrina Gillard and George Filby for stepping in as acting Chair, Secretary and Treasurer and we call on the AGM to elect new officers. (This time round, officers have been proposed by the Steering Group for approval at the AGM, but we are open to suggestions as to how the election process could be improved in the future.)

Proposed Co-Chairs:  Sarah Hathaway and Joe Duggan

Joe Duggan : Proposed by Kalina Palka

I nominated Joe for Chair because of his obvious passion and commitment for Crystal PalaceTransition Town. He has been highly active over the past year on the Steering Group, in the Communications Group, on the website, the Food&Growing group, our‘meet and greet’ stalls and networking with the wider Transition Town community. All this gives him an excellent overview of all things related to Transition. He has also been chairing our Steering Group meetings for many months, which he has done with enormous skill and diplomacy. He listens to and respects all views,
while ensuring our meetings run in a timely and efficient manner. He also models one of our dearest principles: that it should be FUN!

I think Sarah and Joe have fantastic complementary skills and would make a wonderful team. It would give cover for the role and perhaps also the capacity to absorb some of the tasks currently performed by our as yet unreplaced Secretary.

Seconded by Katrina Gilliard

Sarah Hathaway: Proposed by Lynette Aiken

I nominated Sarah because of her calm, practical, sensible approach to things and her experience and skills at working in a consensual way. She has achieved so much in a 'behind-the-scenes' way to help set us up as a functioning
Transition Initiative. In consultation with the steering group, she has put together our constitution, written the 'style guide' for the Communications group, and has already begun to take on some of the tasks previously undertaken
by our current Chair, such as sending out newsletters and managing the mailing list. She also manages the Twitter account and recently set up the Waste and Recycling group which has already had a strong influence on the way that waste will be dealt with at the Overground Festival. I think her character and skills complement Joe's perfectly and working together will hopefully make the job lighter, more manageable and more fun to do.

AMENDMENT TO OUR CONSTITUTION

We would like to add a line to the constitution that anyone who has volunteered as a Steering Group member must attend Steering Group meetings or send apologies for absence in order to remain on the Steering Group.

Proposed by Steering Group Consensus

 WHERE NEXT?

We would like to end the evening with a facilitated activity that will act to allow all members present to express and record ideas as to how they would like Crystal PalaceTransition Townto move forward.

We will be asking questions like “How can we get more people involved?”   “How can we source and produce more of our food locally?”
