Handmade Palace

Handmade Palace is a collaboration of local artists and crafts people, who sell their work weekly at the Crystal Palace Food Market.

The History
Handmade Palace started in Oct 2013, as a small stall running at the market once a month where local artists and crafters could come to sell their wares. Ceramicist Beth Mander took the reins in April and it quickly became a weekly event.

The Project
With an aim to encourage people to shop locally, buying local products and supporting local artists rather than mass produced goods, Handmade Palace is not just one person's stall but a collaboration between artists, crafters and the Crystal Palace community that will hopefully just keep getting bigger and better.

The concept of somewhere to buy works of art by local people next to a stall selling organic produce seems to be working with nearly 50 makers vying for the 12 spaces on the stall each week.

Beth sees Handmade Palace as a place for local makers to try out their products when they are starting out, but she has been really surprised by the consistently high quality of work people approach her with.

Armed with a flask of coffee and enthusiasm to keep warm, Beth can be found under the Handmade Palace banner at Crystal Palace Food Market each Saturday. Give her a visit if you are looking for a special gift for someone, something to brighten up your living room, or even if you are interested in selling your own wares.
